As Republicans, We Believe:
That the free enterprise system is the most productive supplier of human needs and economic justice,
That all individuals are entitled to equal rights, justice, and opportunities and should assume their responsibilities as citizens in a free society,
That fiscal responsibility and budgetary restraints must be exercised at all levels of government,
That the Federal Government must preserve individual liberty by observing Constitutional limitations,
That peace is best preserved through a strong national defense,
That faith in God, as recognized by our Founding Fathers is essential to the moral fiber of the Nation.
In Pittsylvania, we see the universal truth that small business activity can make or break an economy. As a town that runs off of small business innovation and growth, making sure small businesses can run efficiently is our top priority. Government, whether federal, state, or local, can always try to be an impediment to the progress of small businesses. Red tape and endless regulations can bury any good business model and it should be our goal to limit government so that it stops short of choking local innovators.
No matter what we try to do to fix our education system, we need good teachers. Many highly qualified and passionate teachers do great things for our students already in the classroom, but teachers unions, bad regulations, and the “first in, first out” policy often protect the few disaffected teachers still in our system. We need a system to find these teachers and offer them ways to improve or replace them. The baseline for a good education is a good teacher.
International Organizations such as the United Nations or the World Trade Organization can help bring order to an otherwise chaotic international scene and the United States should always work with them when possible to promote international peace and trade. However, the laws of international organizations can never trump American sovereignty and we firmly believe it should remain that way. The American people are the only ones that can decide American foreign policy and international organizations cannot strip them of that.
